STEP 0- HOW DO I COMPLETE THIS WORK?

STEP 1- WHAT IS DATA?

Using the internet....get a defitnition of what data is. Memorise it

​

STEP 2- HOW CAN WE GATHER & COLLECT DATA?

Well if data is measurements, dates, times, lenghts, times, distance, scores, grades and so on...how do we collect it?

Well we can collect it by asking people, reading it off a sheet or counting. Its that simple but can be very boring!

​

STEP 3- WHAT CAN WE USE TO SHOW DATA?

We can use spreadsheets or databases. In this activity we will look at spreadsheets. 

​

a) You must have a Laptop / PC and a Google Login

b) Log into your Google account

c) Now click here to open Google Sheets or open Excel in your Office 365 account (logon: school email address and then pw: normal network password)

d) Click create a new "Blank" spreadsheet....have you got this?

e) So this is spreadsheet.

So a spreadsheet has cells (the boxes) and each cell has a unique code like D12 or A9 or G99. The numbers are also called the rows and letters are called Columns

​

f) In cell B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 add a number to each cell. You choose. Got this below?

g) Now how could we add it up?

​

In cell B7 type the following:   =B1+B2+B3+B4+B5+B6        now press Enter. Do you get all the numbers added up?

​

h) What about other calculation? Lets try..

 

Now in cell B7 can you change the + (addition) sign to a   -  (minus) then a *  (multiple)   and then / (divide)

​

i) Now for something cool. CHARTS!

​

Ok...select cell B1 to B6......now lets create a chart! While it is highlighted (cell B1 to B6) click Insert, Chart....WOW a chart. Can you turn it into a bar chart?

​

EVIDENCE TIME :)

j) Now get your phone out and take a picture or screenshot of your spreadsheet with the data and the chart.

k) Save the picture onto your computer into the folder Task 1

l) Now log into Edmodo- find usernames and passwords here and login here

m) Now click in Edmodo on Assignment "Task 1"

n) Click into it and then attach the picture of your chart to it , done.....then click Turn In
